Key Tips to Help You Prepare for a Hurricane

To prepare for a hurricane, there are a few important tips you need to remember.

To prepare for a hurricane, your first step should be to plan early. Are you staying or going? If you’re thinking of leaving, make sure you have an evacuation route. The gas tanks should be full in all of your vehicles, you should have your maps handy, your pets should be taken care of, and you should know exactly where you’re going and where you’re staying. Once you know a hurricane’s coming, you should also leave sooner rather than later so you don’t risk getting stuck in traffic or at the end of long lines for gasoline. If you plan on staying, make sure you stock up on supplies. There are a lot of things you’ll need during a hurricane that you’ll use the rest of the year anyway, such as water, dried goods, canned food, flashlights, batteries, a battery-powered radio, etc.

you should leave sooner rather than later.

Whether you’re staying or going, you’ll want to make sure all the trees on your property are trimmed, your home’s windows and doors are secured, and that the home "in general" is able to withstand the impending storm.

Today’s subject is not one of my favorites, but it is important nonetheless. I am talking about hurricanes, which have become a hot topic in the media as we enter hurricane season.

Buyers and sellers alike have been asking a lot of questions lately about what to expect from hurricane season. Specifically, people are wondering what they should do. They want to know how hurricane season may impact their real estate goals. Well, allow me to shed some light on this.

Sellers have two choices. They can either hold on to their property through the season or list now. When it comes to purchasing real estate, today’s buyers are not concerned about the storms. They are much more focused on finding the right home and enjoying our fabulous Florida weather through the winter. In other words, now is an excellent time to sell. Inventory is down and demand is up.

If you are thinking of buying or selling,
now is still a fantastic time to do so.

If you are a buyer yourself, then I have good news for you as well. Whether you are looking to spend your winters in our sunny state or are interested in relocating here permanently, it is still a great time to move. Locals here will tell you that we tend to quickly recover from issues such as wind and rain during hurricane season. Overall, you’re sure to love life here in sunny Southwest Florida.

In the last two weeks since Hurricane Irma came through southwest Florida, we have seen a tremendous recovery.

Southwest Florida is resilient, and we rebound quickly. The huge effort from FPL and other power companies throughout Canada and the US have made an incredible improvement to our communities.

Some homes have been without power for one or two weeks, but fortunately most citizens now have had their power restored. Restaurants and gas stations are re-opened, as well.

The worst damage we saw was flooding in certain areas. The most common damage was to pool cages, roof tiles, screen doors, and fences. Thankfully, southwest Florida was mostly spared by the storm.

If you are in need of a contractor to help repair damages from the hurricane, my team and I can make some great recommendations to respectable, reputable local vendors.

There have been many companies coming into the area and taking advantage of the area, but we can give you recommendations of true, high-quality professions. In an effort to assist with the community, we are always here for you.

I hope you and your family fared well during the hurricane.
